Rotherhill Nurseries is a long standing, family run nurseries open to both trade and general public. We grow thousands of high quality plants throughout the year including a substantial shrub selection ranging from 5Litre through to 50Litre+, trees, perennials, hedging, annuals and much much! Rotherhill proudly does not sell any BBQ’s, furniture, clothes or gifts…

We simply sell excellent plants!

Ann and David started renting Rotherhill Nurseries from the local land owner in 1983 but, soon after they bought the Rotherhill Nurseries site, where we still work form today. They raised their young children, Jemma, Julie and not long after Michael. They grew cut flowers and vegetables to sell from the shed where our shop now stands today. Michael Jemma and Julie will all tell you with stories of washing seed trays for 2p per tray pocket money and their first weekend jobs on the nursery.

From a simple start of growing salad crops Ann and David start to transform the Nursery over the next 15years, moving away from salad and in to retail shrubs, perennials and bedding. As time moves on the selection available grows and shade tunnels and a tree section is added.

Michael starts working full time on the Nursery in the early 2000’s to save up for his first car before going to collage for landscaping. From here his passion for horticulture blossoms and he landscapes for Rotherhill before coming in to in to the roll of grower. Michael has a passion for growing unusual plants and an unbounded enthusiasm to grow the very best quality for our customers. Michael has an excellent knowledge of pest and decease, working closely with DEFRA.

Jemma returned to The Nursery after University and travel, she works alongside Michael growing and managing the day to day.

Where are we now?

Ann, David, Michael and Jemma are now in Partnership running Rotherhill Nurseries where Michael and Jemma take the lead. They are able to rely on our expert team who support their vision of how Rotherhill Nurseries should look today.

Michael and Jemma now both have young families, all of whom are growing up on The Nursery. Having a young family has prompted us to close on a Sunday to allow us time with our family.

In recent years we have been lucky enough to regularly see our plants in gardens at RHS Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Show, to have been featured in several articles for our plant excellence, to be recommended by several award winning garden designers and seen as a recognised source of worthwhile horticultural advice.

We are looking forward to celebrating 40 years of Rotherhill in February 2023 where we will be able to look back at all we have accomplished and look forward to another 40 years of Rotherhill and the generations of Rotherhill horticulturalists to come.
